COST PLUS
Cost Plus is a tax-effective means of supplementing your organization's Extended Health and Dental programs. It provides reimbursement for eligible expenses that may be limited or not covered under your existing group plan, such as:
- cosmetic dentistry
- major restorative or orthodontics
- co-insurance amounts on prescriptions or dental expenses
- cosmetic surgery
- counseling services
- laser eye surgery
- fertility expenses
- vision care - glasses or contacts
With the Cost Plus program, the full amount of eligible claims and administration fees are considered a tax-deductible business expense. The reimbursement to the employee is not considered to be taxable income. Thus, Cost Plus is more tax-efficient than a salary increase as a means to pay for additional medical or dental expenses.
At your discretion, your key employees can be reimbursed for numerous services not covered under your group plan. Alternatively, a company can choose to process large or recurrent medical expenses, such as diabetes medication, through a Cost Plus program rather than through the group health plan to mitigate the effect on the company’s claims history.
