Our Process

When we begin working with a new client, our first step is to gather all of the pertinent data on the existing group plan(s), if there is one.  Once we have all of the information, we perform a comprehensive, detailed review of the existing plan structure, claims history, renewal rates and financial underwriting.  In doing so, we take into account the norms for the company’s specific demographics and industry of operations.  Once this review is completed we will meet with you to determine appropriate plan designs based on marketplace standards and more importantly your own corporate objectives.  It is during this meeting that we will determine the appropriateness of the incumbent carriers and underwriting/accounting methodologies.  If it is decided that marketing is in order, we will then survey the market to ensure that you are aligned with a carrier that best suits your needs.

Once we have received the proposals from the various insurance carriers, we analyze the options and present the client with our recommendations.  Our choice of carriers will take into account not only the rates offered, but also the carrier’s history for superior plan service, efficient claims processing, and technological platform for plan administration.  We will discuss these options in detail with you before finalizing a plan of action.

At Thomas O’Neill & Associates, we are committed to building lasting relationships with clients, and will review your plan regularly to make certain that your needs continue to be met.  Each quarter you will receive a report that outlines your plan utilization.  As well, we will hold semi-annual or quarterly review meetings, as requested by the client.  At a minimum we insist on a nine month experience meeting to provide you with a projection of your renewal.  If these reports show higher than expected claims activity we will identify those areas of concern and provide you with plan design alternatives to help control claims.  Upon receipt of the Renewal Report each year, we will perform a detailed analysis of your plan’s performance during the year that will identify any areas of concern.  Based on our own renewal calculations, if necessary we will approach the carrier on your behalf to renegotiate more favourable terms for you.

Finally, we hold employee meetings on a regular basis or as requested by the client.  Our goal is to ensure that the employees fully understand what is included in their benefits program, and explain any changes or plan enhancements that have been made.
